If you want to get technical, the deep penetration of the Poloxamer Gel (or PLO, as we call it) allows the local anaesthetic to deliver the numbing effect more efficiently than other bases. This is because the PLO gel has two phases: the oil phase (using soya lecithin) and an aqueous phase (20% PLO gel), meaning the oil phase stays on top and numbs your skin, while the aqueous phase is absorbed into your skin, and numbs below the surface.
